Grameenphone has withdrawn the decision to fix the minimum recharge limit of Tk 30. It was supposed to come into effect from today (Wednesday).
Grameenphone Head of Communication Sharfuddin Ahmed confirmed the matter. He said, ‘We are not implementing it now. Discussion will be held with BTRC in this regard. We will take the next decision in the context of that discussion.
Sharfuddin Ahmed said, we considered making the minimum balance recharge 30 taka. However, for the convenience of our customers, we currently have various types of recharge options. For example – 14 taka, 19 taka. Also, 29 Tk recharge minute pack, 20 Tk balance recharge card, 14 Tk and 19 Tk minutes and data card and 29 Tk data card services are available.
He also commented that although the minimum balance recharge is Tk 30, customers could use these other options.
Recently, Grameenphone informed customers through SMS, “Dear customer, from January 10, the minimum recharge amount will be Tk 30. However, recharge offers below Rs 30 and scratch cards can be used as before.
Through the MyGP app, the company also informed the customers, “From next January 10, the minimum recharge amount will be 30 taka.”
Meanwhile, Grameenphone’s notice sparked widespread criticism at the customer level. Several events called ‘Boycott Grameensim’ were also opened on the social media Facebook. In the face of these criticisms, Grameenphone withdrew from such a decision.
Currently, Grameenphone customers can recharge a minimum of Tk 20. From July 2022, the minimum recharge amount is Rs.20. Earlier, a minimum of 10 rupees could be recharged.
